Clean carpets can be the difference between allergy relief and aggravation. Here’s why getting your carpet cleaned can help your allergies.

Allergens

Carpet has a lot of wonderful qualities. It looks nice, it feels soft beneath your feet and it’s the safest flooring option available. But it does have one troublesome quality: It can attract and retain allergens! Allergens are antigens that provoke allergic reactions. They come in many different forms. Check out this video about allergens in the home.
  • Pet dander
  • Dust mites
  • Mold spores
  • Dust
  • Dirt
  • Pollen

While allergens circulate through the air, they can most often be found on surfaces. Allergens can enter your house from outside, either through open windows, pets, or tracked in with your shoes. Once they end up on your carpets allergens can lay dormant within the fibers. Just walking on the carpet or lying down on it can kick those allergens up in the air where they can irritate your allergies. And once those allergens get airborne they can circulate in your home for hours at a time.

Why Regular Carpet Cleaning Is Important

Vacuuming your carpets isn’t enough. While it can suck up and get rid of dust and dirt, there are other allergens that are more stubborn and clingy. Mold and mildew are hard to get rid of, and can actually be made worse if you shampoo your carpets and don’t dry it thoroughly afterwards. At Dr. Chem-Dry we us our Hot Carbonating Extraction that uses 80% less water than other steam cleaners and even less than DIY cleaners. Thismeans that with us your carpets are dry in just hours, not days.

Got Pets? Well then you probably have pet dander. Some people have more sensitive noses than others. Even though a thorough vacuuming can remove a good portion of the pet dander, if your vacuum doesn’t have a HEPA filter, it’s exhausting the dust and debris right back into your home. Using a good vacuum with a HEPA filter removes 99.97% of the dirt, dust and debris, this way your air is cleaner and safer. Call us if you’d like to know how we can 98% of the allergens removed from your carpets, upholstery, tile and even your granite counter tops.

Another problem that can’t be solved by vacuuming your carpets is Dust mites can’t be vacuumed up, which is what makes them one of the most persistent and aggravating of allergens. Dust mites are microscopic  arthropods. These tiny buggers aren’t allergic: It’s their waste that they produce that’s the actual allergen. And they produce a LOT of waste: Dust mites can produce up to 200 times their body weight in waste each day. Dust mites love warm, humid environments and will hide themselves deep in carpeting, bedding, and furniture.

If you want to make sure that your carpets are allergen free you’ll want to give us a call. Only a professional carpet cleaning can ensure that there aren’t any pests or waste left lurking in your carpets to bedevil your allergies later.
