Steam Cleaning
Steam cleaning is also known as hot water extraction cleaning. The method uses equipment that sprays heated water on the carpet. Sometimes the water has added cleaning chemicals mixed in it. The water gets simultaneously vacuumed up as it’s being sprayed, the vacuum sucking up any dirt lodged in the carpet. The hot water extracts dirt and debris in the carpet by jarring it loose and dissolving it with large volumes of water and high pressure.
The name “steam cleaning” is actually a bit of a misnomer. Actual steam isn’t being used to clean the carpet: The name refers to steam coming off of the equipment doing the hot water extraction. Actual steam making contact with your carpet could damage or shrink carpet fibers.
Hot Carbonating Extraction Cleaning
Hot carbonating extraction cleaning also uses hot water to extract dirt from your carpets, but takes a different approach. Rather than soak your carpets with carpet, carbonating cleaning uses a super heated, low-moisture process to clean your carpet with millions of microscopic bubbles. These bubbles explode dirt from deep within your carpet fibers when the carbonation releases, lifting up the dirt. High powered equipment is then used to extract all the dirt and moisture from the carpet. Learn more about the power of carbonation and see it in action.
Which One Is More Effective?
Hot carbonating extraction cleaning uses almost 80% less water than steam cleaning does. One of the risks of steam cleaning is that because it uses an excessive amount of water, it can sometimes soak all the way through to the carpet’s backing. When the backing gets wet, it can become a breeding ground for mildew and mold. Carbonating cleaning doesn’t have this problem.
Carbonating cleaning is also much faster. Because it takes less water, your carpets can dry up in just a few hours. When carpets are steam cleaned they can take 1-2 days to dry. Steam cleaning also can leave a soapy residue that causes your carpets to re attract dirt .
One final benefit of choosing carbonating over steam: Dr. Chem-Dry’s Hot Carbonating Extraction cleaning doesn’t use detergents, soaps, or harsh cleaners. Steam cleaning often utilizes soaps and chemicals that can linger and affect your carpet long after the process is done.
